What are the various subscription models I can choose from?

‘eSubscribe’ provides you with remarkable choice and flexibility in accessing content, through its range of content subscription models. You can subscribe to time-periods as brief as a week to extensive periods spanning six months or a year.

What’s more, you have unlimited access to your subscribed books within the subscribed time-period; for e.g. a subscription of 7 days actually translates into a whopping 168 hours of authorised ‘any time’ access to your chosen content. a) DX Search the Catalogue

DX Search is a sophisticated search engine that translates your eBook search query into a comprehensive and incisive ‘contextual’ representation of the requested information.

To DX Search, key in your search query and, if required, fine-tune the search by choosing the appropriate search options. A comprehensive result-set with connecting links ensures immediate access not only to the book but also to its content. More information on how to use DX Search.

b) Browse with eSubscribe

‘Browse with eSubscribe’ allows you to browse through a select category or scan the entire catalogue.

To browse through the titles available under a particular category, just click on the requisite category link. Alternatively, you may fine-tune your search by clicking on a subcategory link.

What is DX Search ?

DX Search is a powerful search engine optimised for in-depth, full content search that uses advanced search and filter techniques to return the most incisive search results.

Its intelligence works across a range of content structures such as Table of Content, Glossaries, Bibliographies and Indexes, besides actual book content. Some of its advanced features include stemming, wildcard, proximity, category etc facilitating instant accessibility to the desired section of content.

The search results will display text containing the search word or phrase, the book title and the page number of the page containing the search word or phrase.

Highlights :

Stemming: Looks for all possible related words after truncating the suffix or the last two or three characters of the word.

Search Operation: Qualifies your search with flexible retrieval options such as ‘or’, ‘and’, ‘proximity’ etc.

Search Type: Allows you to focus your search on a specific section like the TOC, Index etc.

Display Results: Allows you to configure the number of search results displayed per page

How do I use DX Search ?

DX Search is an advanced search engine that enables you to conduct a comprehensive, focused search on the entire catalogue with highly relevant results.

To DX Search :

Key in the search keyword or phrase in the ‘Search’ textbox. You can use the wildcard character (*) to search for a word.
e.g. If the search text is int*, it will look for all words beginning with int like inter, internal, interior, international etc.
Check the ‘Stemming’ check box if you want DX Search to truncate the suffix or the last two or three characters of the word and look for all possible related words.
e.g. If the search text is communicate, it will look for communicate, communicates, communicated, communication, communications, communicator etc,

Select an appropriate eBook category.
Choose an option from the ‘Search Operation’ block; this will determine the modus operandi of the search operation.
Or : If the search text contains a phrase i.e. more than one word, DX Search will split it and search for lines containing each word separately.
And : If the search text contains a phrase i.e. more than one word, DX Search will split it and search for lines containing all the words in the phrase
Phrase : If the search text contains a phrase, DX Search will search for lines containing the whole phrase
Proximity : proximity search looks for content containing search terms within close proximity of each other; to configure this search parameter, define the proximity value in the ‘proximity’ textbox.
Select an option from the ‘Search Type’ drop-down to define the scope of your search.
All Content : will search the whole book for the search word or phrase
Title : will search the title (i.e. chapter) for the search word or phrase
Index : will search the index page for the search word or phrase
TOC : will search the TOC page for the search word or phrase
If you would like to define the number of search results to be displayed per page, select an option from the ‘Display Results’ pane and hit the ‘Go’ button.

The search results will display the list of category/ies and number of books in which the search word/phrase has been located and the number of occurrences in each.

Click on any of the ‘Books’ links to view the books or click on the ‘Occurrences’ link to get a contextual listing for the specified search word/phrase.

How do I access my subscribed content ?

Your eSubscribed books will be available for any time access, within the elected time-period, at the ‘Download Centre’. To access your subscriptions, click on ‘Download Centre’ on the left navigation button panel and sign in with your user details. You will arrive at the ‘Download Centre’ where your subscriptions will be securely archived in ‘Your Subscription Bookshelf’. Click on ‘Read Online’ to access your book online. You can also view your subscription details – subscription type, hours remaining, subscription start and end dates – by placing the mouse cursor on the Book Title in ‘Your Subscription Bookshelf’.

Can I make my own notes or copy articles from my subscribed books ? If yes, how ?

Yes. You can create or compile your own resource of accessible content from your subscribed books in your ‘Research Book’. The copyright owners of certain books have given specific consent to allow their original work to be used in part within the DX Reader Research Book. This facility is provided as a powerful user tool to facilitate reading and research of published material. But the ability to transfer pages, sections or any part of any book from the DX Reader to your Research Book does not waive, change or transfer copyright ownership and the content must be used strictly in accordance with the terms and conditions you have agreed to as a subscribed user.

Can I read or access my subscribed content in any electronic format available at the eBookstore ?

You can access your subscribed content online in the DX Reader electronic format only. eSubscribed content will not be accessible in any other electronic format.

Can I re-subscribe to a book ?

Yes. You can re-subscribe to a book if your reference requirements call for an extended period of access. On expiration of the stipulated time-period, the book will be made available for re-subscription; though it may be noted that re-subscription does not grant access to your content resources compiled from the preceding subscription.

Can I request a refund or cancel my subscription at any time ?

No. A subscription model once opted for, can not be refunded or cancelled. Please be advised that requests for change in the title subscribed to or the subscribed timescale are not considered for security reasons. It is recommended that the subscribed book be availed till such time as the subscription permits.

I have subscribed to a book of interest and now would like to extend my subscription. Can I request an extension of my subscription period ?

We recommend re-subscription to your book of choice after your current subscription expires. If you subscribe to the same title for an alternative length of time, before expiry of the present subscription, it will be treated as a new subscription order and will not credit your existing subscription with the new timescale subscribed to. In effect, the repeat subscription along with the preceding subscription will be available for access for their respective time-periods independent of each other.

Can I print pages or download my subscription book within the subscribed time-period ?

No. To prevent copyright infringements and ensure legitimate usage of authentic content, print, copy or any other means of data transfer is not currently endorsed. However, eBookstore intends to make the facility of printing pages from subscribed books available in the future.

Alternatively, if your immediate need calls for printing content, you can avail the ePrint facility. ePrint enables cost-effective micro-purchases of selective content from eBooks of choice.

As regards downloading subscription books, subscribed books can only be read online in the DX Reader electronic format, and cannot be downloaded or accessed offline. You can download your annotations or bookmarks (My Content) at any time, subject to a pre-set time-period, failing which they will be unavailable for access.

Can I subscribe to individual chapters or sections in a book ?

At present eBookstore allows subscription to complete eBooks only. However individual chapters or pages may be copied or transferred from your subscription books to your ‘Research Book’ in strict adherence to copyright rules and eSubscribe Terms and Conditions.

What is My Content ?

‘My Content’ comprises a full compilation of annotations and bookmarks that you have created from your subscribed books and is an information resource distinct from your ‘Research Book’. 'My Content' will be available for online access or download for a period of 15 days after the expiry of your subscription time-period.

What are the system requirements for using the eSubscribe service?

eSubscribe gives you instant online access to the content of choice in the DX Reader. The DX Reader is a new approach to online book readers and presents a wide range of reading and research facilities. The DX Reader uses advanced XML and CSS techniques requiring browser version IE 5.5 & above or Netscape 6.1 & above for PCs and Netscape 6.1 & above for Macs.
